The Reading Room trustees have in their care a number of documents about the foundation and the early days of the Reading Room. These can be viewed by arrangement. Amongst these documents, there are many letters sent to Adela Brooke in response to her request for donations to pay for the building of the Reading Room; one of these letters was from Florence Nightingale and it can be seen here.
A document of great significance to the Reading Room is Mrs Brooke's Scrap-Book; this is held at the Oxfordshire History Centre in Oxford. Tony Hyder (one of the trustees) has photographed and catalogued the pages of the scrapbook that relate specifically to Combe and these images are available on the scrapbook page.

In 1998, Dr David Booth, who was resident in Combe at the time, gave a presentation to the Combe History Group on Mrs Brooke's Scrap-book. The text of this most interesting presentation can be read here.
